The value of silence

Imagine for 8 days you have no mobile, no television, no email, no mp3 player, no radio, no newspaper, no Internet and you are not supposed to talk at all except once a day. You spend these 8 days in a retreat place sorrounded by a lovely countryside together with a few others in complete silence.

Would you be willing to participate in such an experiment, to see what effect silence or more precisely a full week spent in silent contemplation and meditation has on you?

In this documentary Abbot Christopher Jamison, a very modern Benedictine monk invites five people who never meditated before and didn't have a minute of silence in their busy everyday life to experience the value of silent meditation, as practised by monks in monasteries for centuries.

What does silence do to us? Is it still possible for the Christian tradition of silence to become part of modern lives?

During the process the five volunteers encounter fear, anger, frustration and rebellion, but finally find their way to both personal and spiritual revelation.

Join part 1 of the journey into the interior space that time in silence reveals.

Would just like to say that a week of silent meditation does not at all feel like the picture you posted!
