Dharma Punx was founded by Noah Levine, who sees the rebellious energy of a lot of punk rock as thoroughly confluent with the teachings of the Buddha. "Buddhism teaches present time awareness," he says. "It' not about living for some future date. It's not about living for some future date. It's about moment-to-moment awareness in this present time. That's punk. The Buddha said his path leads aginst the stream. That's punk."
In the Dharma talk that I attended, Josh skillfully mixed quotes from the Pali cannon with pithy observations about modern life combined with lots of humor. He connected the teaching of the buddha with normal everyday problems, speaking directly to the hearts minds of the attendees. I will post his talk in a week or two.

So far all the Dharma center's I have visited have been filled with "real people" the one's in NYC being no exception :) ... at least so far.
