Emma Seppala: Freeing the Mind from PTSD

Emma Seppala, Ph.D, has done groundbreaking work on using yoga and meditation to help veterans cope with post traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD). Her work is featured in the “Free the Mind” documentary, reviewed hereWhile the most common treatment is to prescribe drugs, research shows that the drugs very rarely, if ever work. But for patients who meditate and do yoga, there are some very promising results.

Initially, I only planned to interview Emma about the research she was presenting at the conference, on compassion in the workplace. However, as with most interviews, the conversation took an unexpected turn and we were soon talking about her fascinating work with veterans. In this video, she explains the research and the science behind her work using meditation and yoga with vets who are suffering from PTSD. It is incredibly important and trail-blazing research in the promising field of contemplative science.
