After my Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics I got somehow pulled away from science and now work as an International IT Manager.

I practise meditation since 2004 following the approaches of Qigong, Zazen and Vajrayana Buddhism.

Bringing wisdom into society

This conference held in Lerab Ling in May 2015 was a great success. It brought together some of the world’s most renowned meditation teachers and key figures in business, health and education to explore what happens when we get to know our minds. They explained the true purpose of meditation—and envisioned what the world would look like if we were able to bring mindfulness and awareness into every aspect of our lives.  

Individual sessions as well as the entire event are now available as Video On Demand.

Sometimes it seems so difficult to meditate. We might try to sit, but our minds are all over the place; or perhaps we have too much pressure and stress in our life and can't seem to find the mental space for meditation. What can we do?

Sogyal Rinpoche - Who are we?

Code of conduct for the 'What Meditation Really Is' website


The aim of the WhatMeditationReallyIs website is to provide a friendly and open environment in which anyone with an interest in meditation can discuss all aspects of meditation and share their own experiences, whether they follow one particular spiritual tradition, or none at all.

The following rules are for everyone's benefit. We intend to keep the website full of quality postings, and we don't want to waste people's time.
By registering on the WhatMeditationReallyIs forum or by commenting on any article on this website, you agree to the following code of conduct.

 

1. No disruptive behaviour

Repeated posts directed with hostility at a particular person, a group of people, an institution, a religious belief or a spiritual tradition will be cause for banning. Any subject matter that is intended only to cause disruption or harm to others will be removed without notice.

You further agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned.

 

2. Stay within the focus of the forum category/article

There are many different meditation practices and traditions. We do not wish to exclude individual preferences and views, but we do ask you to be positive and open-minded. Please refrain from behaviour that will detract from productive exchange.

WhatMeditationReallyIs moderators reserve the right to remove or transfer any comments, posts or threads that are not relevant to the subject matter of this website or the forum category in which they are posted.

 

3. Refrain from illegal postings

Postings that are illegal, such as child pornography, drug dealing or other illegal activities, images or information, are not allowed. You accept full responsibility for what you post as we cannot be held liable for the activities of others on our sites.

 

4. No spamming

You may not post messages that simply advertise your own website, company or other commercial entities on the WhatMeditationReallyIs website. You may not use your postings to actively solicit members for your site, nor may your postings contain commercial advertising of any kind.

People who use this website repeatedly to link to commercial websites or other communities without actually contributing any content will be banned.

 

5. Refrain from duplicate/repetitive postings

You only need to click once on the submit button for your posting to appear. Duplicate postings with identical or similar text will be removed.

 

6. Use meaningful thread titles

All threads in the WhatMeditationReallyIs Forum should have a title that accurately reflects the subject of the thread. Titles like "guess what?" or "hmmmm..." are therefore unacceptable and may be deleted at the moderator's discretion. If you want your thread to be viewed by as many people as possible, you should always include the subject in the title.

 

7. When quoting authors or texts, please cite the source

We don’t want to accidentally plagiarize other people’s work. Please provide a website address where applicable if your information is taken from a website.

 

8. Respect the moderators

The WhatMeditationReallyIs website has an excellent staff of experienced, volunteer moderators who work very hard to keep the site free from spam and trolls. So they can do their job efficiently and effectively, please treat them with respect as they carry out their roles.

You further acknowledge that all posts made to these forums or comments on articles express the views and opinions of the author and not the WhatMeditationReallyIs moderators (except for posts by these people) and hence the latter will not be held liable.

 

As long as you observe these guidelines, you are free to post whatever you wish - and when you post here, you are agreeing to follow the guidelines. This is a free speech site and we respect everyone's right to have their say.

Giving your mind a rest

In this video Sogyal Rinpoche explains that when you are not feeling well, the best thing to do is to sit quietly, not focussing on your problems and allow your mind to settle.
